In times of social search wars, we see a lot of pressure on social platforms to innovate, stay creative and keep sustainability within their platforms. Google+ has certainly created a cat and mouse game with Facebook, especially with their sleek circle features and “Hangouts”. Another tidbit many may not know is that Google+ indexes public posts, based on an algorithm of course, that we wrote about in July, 2011. Well, it appears something similar in this “social search” war is now happening with Facebook. This morning I received a Google Alert for “Ty Downing” from a Facebook post…yes, a “Post” as you can see by the images below. Now we know Google includes Groups, Notes and Business Pages into it’s SERPS (Search Engine Result Pages), but this is either a freak thing, or Facebook is trying to add to the pushing and shoving. I have reached out to Facebook to add clarity to this, so we’ll see what happens or if we get any feedback. If this is true, this could be a major move to “social search optimization” for Facebook. Of course this depends on how Google would choose and rank Facebook posts. I checked BING, and Blekko for similar
Today I saw a floating head in a search query for “Google Plus Pages”. I actually thought a virus had attacked my computer, but notta…Upon reviewing, I realized that Google does in fact index “public” post’s within Google Plus. Take a look at the pictures below. Ok, so here is what you are looking at, a Google +’er named Paul Allen showed up in a Google search query as you see here. This next image shows that Google indexed, and cached his Google Plus post. What does this mean? If you choose to post your Google + post’s publicly, you have a chance of your post getting indexed. If your post is viral in nature, with lots of “shares” & +’s, then according to Google’s algorithm (as we know it today), you have a better chance at your post climbing in the SERPS At the writing of this post his + post had 834 +’s and 1000 shares. SEO is not dead, and Google’s social search is even more powerful. I don’t know about you, but this is going to be a HUGE game changer. This is social search at it’s best! The fact that Google is giving you the option
Which is better??? Since Google+ has come out people have been ranting and raving about what is better. Classic battle of the brands (Coke vs. Pepsi, Ford vs. GMC, Apple vs. Microsoft, etc.) that has consisted for years continues with Google+ vs. seemingly every other Social network. How? G+ has live stream fast as Twitter G+ comment on posts, tag, photos, videos, chat like Facebook G+ has video chat as Skype (…now with Facebook) G+ group chat via mobile (for those who finally have the app) as does… Groupme? G+ has group video (little glitchy, but still good) as does…? So why are they such big players? Besides being the largest search engine, they have had a lot of models to structure their platform on. Facebook of course being the primary model, all the others still played a role in creating what G+ is today. Google has had their failed attempts at Social Media. Google Buzz never really got of the ground, Google Wave was a failure, and Orkut what? But seemly Google+ has taken off! Mashable just released that Google+ has grown to 18,000,000 users. This took Facebook over 2 years to each that many. Do you think G+ will out
What a buzz there has been since Google Plus launched a couple of weeks ago. We here at SayItSocial have really been active in using it, and excited to see how it continues to amaze us at it’s ease of use, and “hangouts” (team fave). Oddly enough though, we are seeing supposed “Thought Leaders” and social marketing consultants totally leave Facebook for Google Plus…huh? Serious? Don’t get us wrong, we love Google Plus, and even are preparing for business pages, but to totally leave almost a billion people social site, steeped deep into a highly effective business marketing tool is an EPIC FAIL period… How can a social media company, consultant, or thought leader just up and leave? How could you ever have freedom of speech at a speaking event, or social media event teaching businesses how to use ALL tools of social media? The answer is you cant. We owe it to businesses to utilize Facebook and Google Plus. Consider this, it is predicted that Facebook will surpass Google in advertising revenues soon…uh…hello? And you are leaving Facebook? Again we have to keep in mind this is business we are talking about, if you leave Facebook totally in favor
