Jelly – The Next Viral Concept?

Biz Stone, Twitter Co-Founder, left the microblogging network in 2011, however today he has released his much anticipated new startup Jelly.

The app allows users to pose visual questions and get immediate answers from their Facebook friends, twitter followers and also a certain amount of 2nd degree connections – all of which is based on an algorithm called ‘FinkelRank’ after its Co-Founder and CTO, Ben Finkel. Speaking to the NY Times, Biz Stone states that “What we’re really doing is taking full advantage of what makes mobile mobile: the brevity, the location and the shortness of answers.”

Available for both Android and Apple, the Jelly concept is to put questions to humans rather than robotic algorithms like that of Google, which they argue to be “no match for experience, inventiveness and creativity of the human mind”. This concept is backed up by its slogan ‘Let’s Help Each Other’

Still in its infant stages (less than a day!), questions on the app range from a selfie accompanied by the caption ‘Should I trim my beard?’ to a creative graphic design asking ‘shadow or no shadow?’ It also allows for its users to draw over their pictures to where they want the audience’s attention to be drawn to. Should you not know an answer to a question, the app is keeps with the latest ephemeral trend (like that of Snapchat) by making the picture disappear forever by swiping downwards.

Have you used Jelly yet? Let us know of your experience with the app so far!
