Google to Restructure Security Efforts after Google Plus Shuts Down

If you opened any form of social media or news platform on October 8th, you likely read “Google Plus shuts down” everywhere. Google ousted consumer access to the Google Plus platform and here’s what we uncovered. A bug in the API for Google+ had been allowing third-party app developers to access the data to all Google Plus members who granted permission, and even their friends who did not. This may sound oddly familiar because it’s almost the same set of circumstances that had Mark Zuckerberg in the US Congress hot seat a few months back. According to The Wall Street Journal, Google realized the similarities and decided not to disclose the breach in fear of damaging their reputation, and by now we’re sure they’re wishing they followed in Taylor Swift’s footsteps taking their BIG reputation in stride.   Shortly after the article was published, Google announced in a blog post the four main findings they uncovered during their internal API review, which they referred to as Project Strobe. The first finding leading to a company-wide decision to close the consumer access door to Google Plus for good, the other three enhancing what’s left of the Google suite as a whole.

The Top 8 From Facebook F8 2018

Coming off the heat of Zuckerberg’s time spent testifying in front of Congress due to a data breach, it was safe to say some major announcements and touches on safety, privacy, and Facebook’s overall mission would be a focal point at this years Facebook F8 Conference. In January Facebook announced a new post ranking change that better aligned with their mission to connect people with meaningful content and conversations and the idea of making those connections a priority shined through in every update announced. Here are the top 8 highlights you need to know from F8 2018:   Instagram Stories Sharing to Instagram via third-party apps such as GoPro and Spotify will soon be available. Loving the song you’re listening to? Share it in your Instagram story with the click of a button through third-party apps. Instagram went into further detail on their blog: Just tap the share button in the Spotify or GoPro app and your content is pulled directly into the Instagram camera. From there you can edit and add to your story or send it via Direct. You don’t have to connect your Instagram account to other apps in order to share to Stories. With more than 300 million daily users, Facebook see’s

5 apps you need as a social media manager

Are you new to digital marketing or switching up positions to a social media manager? Well, here is a list of apps you should download for a successful start.    Slack – Initially, Slack was listed last, but nothing is more crucial than communication with your team which is why we bumped it to the top spot. Slack allows for easy communication within your agency or department. You can also create sub-categories for anything on slack. Making sure there is fluent communication makes everything run smoother.   Google apps – While many of the Google apps play an important role in digital management, for the sake of time I won’t go over every single one of them. The key Google apps we use are Google drive, Google photos, and Google My Business. These assist with organization and headache prevention, and as a social media manager, you’ll appreciate this.    Snapseed – …or any photo editing app you feel works best for your market. We use a mix of Snapseed and RhonnaCollage to edit and watermark photos with our clients’ logos. If you’re on the go and can’t get back to the office to edit a photo before publishing it’s always good to double check the

Apple signs Texture, an Unlimited Magazine App – We put it up for review.

What started as a review of the mobile app Sip by Product Hunt, soon transferred to Texture – Unlimited Magazines app, which Apple recently bought. Texture is referred to as the “Netflix of Magazines.” We were testing out Sip when we read about Apple purchasing Texture, a digital magazine service created by Next Issue Media LLC.      So what is Texture? Well, it’s a lot like stated above, the Netflix of magazines. Categorized under news applications in the app store, Texture was developed by Next Issue Media LLC. For $9.99/month users have access to over 200 publications and some of their archived issues. Publications vary from Forbes, Glamour, to Fit Pregnancy and National Geographic Kids. Pros: 200+ Publications – I think the 200+ publications is an automatic pro, at least in my book. It has the most recent publications of each magazine but there are also older, archived magazines you can track back to if desired. Favorites list – Choose a list of favorites upon launching your account, allowing those to appear first in the “My Library” section of the app. The magazines can be changed at any time, you’re not stuck with them for life. Save for later – Save specific articles/stories to read later or

Vero interesting – We reviewed the trending app, Vero

In the span of a week, the re-trending social application Vero went from 150,000 downloads to nearly 3 million. While Vero’s CEO and associates are receiving negative attention in the news, we’ve tasked the team to simply rate the usability and overall features of the application. Find out why SISDigital rated the Vero application a 3/5 below.   Pros:  Chronological order – Facebook and Instagram steered away from this style feed, but Vero seems to be bringing it back which users seemingly enjoy. Categorized connections – There are three levels when it comes to connections; acquaintances (the default category), friend, and close friend. When you accept a connection you determine where that person falls. Your new connection is not informed of your decision, it is kept internal. No status update/text post – Your feed will not be filled with mindless rambling or a slew of status updates on Vero. Users must post engaging content; photos, videos, music, or links with substance. You can, however, add a caption. Link to other social profiles – When you share content on Vero, you have the ability to share to your other social platforms such as Facebook and/or Twitter. Connected to iTunes – When sharing or searching

2 Steps To Social Synergy

Making your social media cohesive to your social setting. How do you get seamless branding through your social media platforms and your actual social setting? Whether your social setting be a shopping center, amusement park, or concert, how do you do it? Well, synergy. Creating synergy through both social media and social settings will create consistency for your brand. A simple definition of Synergy is the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents. Which is what you want your social media and venue to do. You want them to work together to increase brand awareness and sell your product or service. But I like to think of word synergy in a naive manner. If you want to compose synergy then your social environment and social media should have, get this, similar energy = synergy. Your social media should reflect the feel, atmosphere, and personality of the environment your customer would be walking in to. It creates a wholesome branding. Here are two ways to implement synergy. In a recent Sprout Social session, Museum of Ice Cream’s head of content and social, Madison Utendahl, spoke about how creating content online should inspire action offline. Right off

Your Facebook is About to Get Emotional

Your digital world is about to get a lot more emotional…. if that’s even possible. After more than a year of testing, Facebook has officially launched Facebook Reactions. In an effort to allow its users more flexibility to express how things on their newsfeed make them feel, the company has expanded its traditional ‘like’ button to a more diverse set of buttons that allow one to express emotions such as love, humor, or anger. In order to add a reaction to a post, simply hold down the like button on your phone or hover the button on your desktop. Sigh. In a news release issued by the company, they claim to have been conducting focus groups and surveys to determine which emotions or reactions people are likely to use the most. The social network has also conducted content analyses to discover how users are already expressing emotions verbally in order to create the new reaction choices: Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad or Angry. In an interview conducted by CNN Money, Facebook product manager, Sammi Krug stated that they have received positive feedback and “the Love reaction has been the most popular.” The one reaction missing from this newly released set of
