The @KitchenAidUSA Crisis and 4 Ways it Could Have Been Avoided

By now, the uproar caused by the #SocialMediaCrisis behind KitchenAid’s accidental tweet has somewhat ceased and people have gone back to looking for a new, juicy story to dramatize. But the important question remains: Did we learn our lesson? Recap: In case you somehow slept through the last 5 days of painful backlash that KitchenAid endured, it was caused by a tweet sent out from the Brand’s Twitter Channel during the Presidential Debate last week:   ”Obamas gma even knew it was going 2 b bad! ‘She died 3 days b4 he came president’. #nbcpolitics” Obama had mentioned his grandmother, Madelyn Lee Payne Dunham, during the debate. She died November 2, 2008, just before Obama was elected president.  KitchenAid’s Response: During the first 24 hours of the crisis, KitchenAid did the best they could have in an attempt to put out the fire and they did a good job.  1. KitchenAid deleted the tweet first. Naturally, there is no reason to leave these harsh words present after the brand was about to get completely torn apart as it was. That is an understandable action.  2. Then, they issued an apology on Twitter – completely and utterly necessary. “Deepest apologies for an

5 Facebook Marketing Strategies for Health Care Non-Profits

Days are already here when you cannot afford to omit social networking sites from your online marketing strategy. This is not because Mr. Mark Zuckerberg is filing billion dollar IPO for his social networking site or you see millions of tweets flying around in the web everyday or some non-profits are flaunting their Facebook pages and tweet account on fund-raising parties. The reason is social networking sites have established themselves as low-cost or no-cost avenue to market your product. Sites like Facebook are more effective if you are talking about a non-profit initiative dealing with public healthcare. You can draw people’s attention, engage them in your non-profit activity, ask them to volunteer and definitely raise fund. And for all these you don’t need to spend hefty money on adverts and promotional. But what’s so special about Facebook? In fact, every networking site has its niche. Unlike LinkedIn and Twitter, on Facebook people maintain a more sociable attitude. People here try to replicate what they do or want to do for their society in real life. Non-profit healthcare initiatives, trying to improve public health, can expect more acceptances on Facebook rather than on business networking sites. So, if you have genuine

Facebook Business Pages’ Future: Timeline Change

Timeline. Either you love it or hate it, Facebook has changed. Businesses all over the world ask this question, “What does this mean for Business Pages?” The answer is they are changing! At the recent f8, Facebook Developer Conference, some of our friends and partners learned a lot of “insider” information. Tim Moore, CEO of CrushIQ, Ben Menesini, VP Ubiquity Development of ShortStack, and myself, Josh Harcus, talked about the future of Facebook Brand/Business Pages. Here are a few possible changes for the new Facebook Business Pages: Ben Mensesini’s thoughts (via. email): “Here’s a short writeup.  This is all personal opinion and speculation; nothing concrete has been said by Facebook yet. What Timeline Means for Facebook Pages It’s coming.  We don’t know exactly how, or what it means for businesses yet, but in private conversations with Facebook developers, it was made fairly clear that Facebook is interested in maintaining consistency across the entire application.  This consistency could be part of the reasons that Facebook announced they’re removing the “Discussions” and “Reviews” applications from Pages (https://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=254646391237470). Mashable recently published an article with artist concepts of what we could see.  I’d be very hesitant to say these are any more accurate than

"Epic" Battle – Facebook Takes On Groupon

Why do you think half the people in our field are on meds? Because of this stuff. My background and expertise has been SEO, and for several years it’s been enough for me and my team to figure out over 400 changes to Google’s algorithm each year, but sheesh, social media changes are brutal. Seems every day something changes, such as Mashable reporting that we finally have some screenshots of the new “Groupon” like product from Facebook. (courtesy of Mashable) I am a little iffy on this product from Facebook personally. I mean Facebook Places (Check-in) really took the wind out of competitors like Foursquare, Gowalla and Yelp, but I just don’t see Facebook “Deals” overtaking Groupon’s strangle hold..You?? Well, so far here is what we know Facebook Deals is, and is not: Only launching in 5 cities (I doubt it’s my city) Users who opt into Deals will see opportunities specific to their geo locations. These ARE NOT check-in deals like mobile deals. Offers will arrive via email or perhaps appear in the user’s news feed on Facebook. Each Deal has it’s own landing page on Facebook. (Woo Hoo! Another page we have to maintain and claim!!.) Users can

Top Five Things You Should Know About Facebook Pages

Ok, we are all grown up with Facebook business pages right? Wrong.  Facebook changes settings and functions about as much as Google adjusts it’s algorithm.  It’s virtually impossible to name all the things you should know about Facebook, but I thought I would give the top 5 things you should know!  (I am sure this post will be updated soon) Here we go: 1.  Swapping identities – Facebook now allows you to change identifies within the platform, with the option of using Facebook as your personal profile or a business page you administer.  To use as a business page, you can navigate to your page and simply click “Use Facebook as [Page Name]” on the right hand side of the page.  The Account drop down menu also gives you the option to “Use Facebook as Page”, and allows you to switch your identity to any page for which you have admin rights. Once you have done so, you will see that your friend requests and personal notifications have been replaced by new page likes and notifications of page activity.  If you navigate to the “Home” tab, you will notice the “News Feed” no longer displays posts from individual users, but

3 Mini Strategies to get your Facebook Page More "Likes"

Before I begin with three strategies to get your Facebook Page more likes there is a major caveat that must be addressed.  If you are not actively driving traffic to your Facebook Page the following tips will not be effective.  When creating your overall Facebook marketing strategy keep in mind that you have to promote your page using various mediums like Facebook Advertising or including the link in your email marketing.  If you need help with your social media marketing strategy let us help! Mini Strategy #1: Like-Gate Your Facebook Landing Tab Like-gating is an easy way to direct users to “like” your page.  You are enticing them with a private message that only “Likers” of the page will be able to see.  The following example is a great call to action.  Unless you like their page you will not be able to “Enter the world of small town charm…”  You will still be able to view other tabs on the page but by Like-Gating you are creating a specific call to action that will give the user access to this private message.  Our analysis indicates a 50% increase in the number of likes a page gets when using this
