Vero interesting – We reviewed the trending app, Vero

In the span of a week, the re-trending social application Vero went from 150,000 downloads to nearly 3 million. While Vero’s CEO and associates are receiving negative attention in the news, we’ve tasked the team to simply rate the usability and overall features of the application. Find out why SISDigital rated the Vero application a 3/5 below.   Pros:  Chronological order – Facebook and Instagram steered away from this style feed, but Vero seems to be bringing it back which users seemingly enjoy. Categorized connections – There are three levels when it comes to connections; acquaintances (the default category), friend, and close friend. When you accept a connection you determine where that person falls. Your new connection is not informed of your decision, it is kept internal. No status update/text post – Your feed will not be filled with mindless rambling or a slew of status updates on Vero. Users must post engaging content; photos, videos, music, or links with substance. You can, however, add a caption. Link to other social profiles – When you share content on Vero, you have the ability to share to your other social platforms such as Facebook and/or Twitter. Connected to iTunes – When sharing or searching

Tools to Keep Everyone In Touch While you’re Grillin on the 4th

A great company culture doesn’t stop when you leave the office. Staying in touch after hours is a necessity of 21st century business. Email can feel stale and impersonal, and doesn’t lend itself to group work. So what can you use to keep in touch with your coworkers when you’re out? Here are some great tools along with their pros and cons:   Slack  Slack was first released in 2013 as a group collaboration platform and has since expanded their arsenal. Slack has screen sharing capability, voice and video calling, and hierarchical group chats that fit well into organizational structure. Pros: Slack has great business com features and provides in depth administrative tools. If everyone takes the time to learn their way around the shortcuts the app can be a highly efficient communication asset.   Cons: The user interface can be tricky to get the hang of, and all of the options can get in the way of efficient communication.     Groupme Groupme is a few years older than slack, and has a much more straightforward platform. It doesn’t have a lot of the bells and whistles that Slack has, but the user interface is simple and easy to

Twitter and Blogger Co-Founders Present a New Blogging ‘Medium’

Yet another Medium of blogging has been unveiled. But, unlike the others, this one is designed a little differently and supposedly, less intimidating and more, defined. “We’re rethinking publishing and building a new platform from scratch. This is a preview,” read the words at the top of the announcement about Medium. Designed by a couple guys who cofounded other platforms you may have heard of, (if you haven’t, you probably aren’t from this planet , or have never seen the in-ter-net) Twitter and Blogger. Evan Williams and Biz Stone have become incredibly familiar with online trends and from the look of it have been taking very detailed notes since their 1999 launch of Blogger. Although there has been an infinite number of startups and concepts to come and go (very few to remain in existence) somehow, people are still coming up with unique ideas; which are mostly just combinations of past failures and successes. As they all say about their own concepts, Twitter co-founders seem to agree, Medium is different. “Posting on Medium (not yet open to everyone) is elegant and easy, and you can do so without the burden of becoming a blogger or worrying about developing an audience. Why Chrome is the next Bowser…. Mario better run.

This video made me chuckle, but also realize that the norm may not be as familiar with browsers and how they can make your life so much easier. Within the last few days Google Chrome has passed Internet Explorer as the most used browser. Internet Explorer (16th browser to be launched) had held a market share of 88% in 2003, so why has Chrome passed it 9 years later? For those who use Chrome there is no explanation needed, but I will give one anyway for the laggards (I kid, I kid). Starting with the style chrome was designed to have more of a friendly round design that was so different from Internet Explorer, an extremely traditional browser (until their more recent face lift). Chrome’s move to have everything inside one search bar (search engine and address bar combined), was a huge increase in productivity, because now “searching” became the first step in the process. Instead of with the past where toolbars or other extensions were installed. The number one reason why I enjoy Chrome is extensions. Allowing users to create tools that help increase productivity with the browser was a crucial move that has helped them

Cornell Twitter User Study: Gold Nugget (part 2 of 2)

GOLD NUGGET:  The awesome section! To make this more of an effective study Cornell University developed a “free” tool to help them decipher when people were posting certain words during the week (time & day). DID YOU READ THAT?! This tool helps give you a report of when people are tweeting, engaging with certain topics. So what? If I am a Pizza company (we will just say Papa John’s for argument sake), I can search when people are mentioning the keyword: “pizza” and that is when I engage. I did a search and here are my results:   Fridays and Saturdays from 4:30pm to 9:30pm would be the peak times for Papa John’s to send out a full on blast of coupons etc. Even Sundays during the same time would be relatively effective. Even a follow and RT would be efficient for initial engagement. So what does this mean for businesses? How can you see using this kind of a tool?
